Kasba Fair

Our Protection Home Children were all excited for Shubho Noboborsho from 11th April – 15th April 2016. The onset of the New Year multiplied the festive mood as all our children from all the homes had put up a beautiful exhibition at our Kasba Home for the mentioned days from 3.00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m.
The fair was very colourful – credit goes to the amazing art work and paintings one could see all around the place. An area full of ornaments, puppets, bookmarks, greeting cards, wind chimes, flower vase and many more handmade items further brightened up the entire set-up. The children tried their best to welcome each and every visitor. Apart from these stalls, there was one seen busy doing nail art while one was busy making puchkas for the walk-ins!
Excellent art work coupled with some amazing crafts had instilled life to the home for these days. Visitors were seen very happy purchasing gifts for their loved ones for the occasion, while the children were too elated to show them their handmade products.

School Immersion Programme

School Immersion Programme

Hope Kolkata Foundation organized a school immersion programme with Calcutta International School in March 2016. The children welcomed the foreign students with an enlightening address on the women power in India – as we were celebrating International Women’s Day on the same day!
Children were paired with the Indian students to help each other know more about their culture. The Buddy session was followed up with a series of activities on maths, art, music and sociology. While the students chose their respective areas of interests, the teachers accompanied them to make the session more participative. The activity ended with a friendly football match between the school students and the Irish team.
Every beginning has an ending – which was not just in Indian style, but had some international flavors too. We saw the Indian students performing garba and bidding thank you to the Irish guests, the latter too expressed gratitude by singing a beautiful song for them!

International Street Children's Day 2016

International Street Children's Day 2016

Maureen Forrest, Founder Director of The Hope Foundation, started the International Day for Street Children by visiting one of our Nabaasha projects in Gariahat. She spent the morning listening to children about their means of livelihood, their aims in life, as well as meeting their families who live under the Gariahat bridge.
Afterwards, Maureen visited G.D.Park, near Kalighat. She had conversations with the street families, which was followed up by an over of cricket with the local boys, causing much entertainment and rekindling the feeling of joy and happiness in their lives.
The latter half of the day saw Hope carry out two campaigns on the streets of Kolkata – one at Park Street and other at New Market. Volunteers and office staff carried out this awareness campaign, educating the publicabout the plight of the street children and the projects we run for them in the city. Along with this, we also supported the Consortium for Street Children throughout the day. We added over 100 petitions towards the campaign to help International Day for Street Children be officially recognized by the UN.
We tried to have an insight on 'a day in a street child’s life' – where we spoke to them about the challenges they face in their daily life.
